When Bush was President, all the Libruls could say was "Where's Bin Laden?" Have you said that in the last two years? Interesting, right? NOT.

This reporting is absolutely ridiculous. How can one man pull the country up by the boot straps when he's being yanked, pulled and smothered by the very ones who benefited when the last regime was in power? How would it be possible for any president to pull it out when it was so deeply sunk in the mire when they came in? He's an intelligent, classy person with a brain. This current situation was in preparation for many years before his emergence. Shame on this garbage! Could we ever admit there are those who want him to fail just because he's a black man and they've never really grown out of their prejudice? Let's get really. Rather infuriating isn't it. Perhaps they'd rather have puppet Palin to dance for the crowds. Would make it much easier for the backroom group. Petty little ugly politics.

Um.....Obama himself said he he was elected the polar ice caps would stop melting and the ocean's waters would recede. That's much more difficult than fixing the economy. He has failed at BOTH.

THE REPUBLICANS DESTROYED OUR ECONOMY WITH THEIR DEREGULATION WHICH WAS STARTED BY REAGAN. THE LONG-RUN EFFECT OF REAGANOMICS IS THE EQUIVALENT OF TEN NUCLEAR BOMBS HITTING THE U.S.

I'll tell you exactly how one man can "pull the country up by the boot straps". He can surround himself with people who have actually worked in the the private sector (since he never has) instead of surrounding himself with career government employees and educators who advise the president based on their theories rather than their real-world experience. He also needs to stop pandering to the unions, but don't count on that happening any time soon. Oh, one other thing, Arvie: the playing of the race card is really getting tiring and I think you and everybody else should knock it off. Race has nothing to do with the economic condition of the USA and the notion that we as a country are willing to continue to struggle like this just because we have a black president and we want to see him fail is pretty close to the stupidest line of reasoning imaginable.
by outtatheway October 7, 2010 1:19 PM EDT
Arviebird- Speaking of backroom politics hows the health reform looking for you? This isn't because he's black, it's because he lied to get the job and people like you won't admit failure.
by ET4321 October 7, 2010 1:48 PM EDT
The race thing is so not an issue. WE HAVE A BLACK PRESIDENT.Lets add up and see how many green jobs have gone overseas. I wonder how many Americans would be working now if those jobs were here.
by valwayne October 7, 2010 12:30 PM EDT
I'm amazed that 38% of the American people could approve of 9.6% UNEMPLOYMENT and the highest poverty rate since 1994? Does that 38% all have tenure at some Ivy League University where they don't ever see what's going on in the real world like Obama? Its maddening to think how much better off we would be today if Obama had taken the Reagan approach of trusting the American people, and returned that trillion dollars in stimulous money to individuals and small business, rather than using it to grow the size and cost of Government to an all time high, and pay off the special interests? All of that money just wasted and now hanging over our necks as debt! Obama and the Democrats have arrogantly forced their lunatic left wing model and policies on the nation. The result is disaster for average working Americans. All we can do to recover now is balance our Government in Nov by firing every Democrat on the ballot!!!

Proves that 38% of American's are idiots, the same 38% that doesn't pay income tax. They could care less about unemployment as long as Obama keeps their entitlements, food stamps and welfare checks a coming.. Remember: all you Democrats, election day is WEDNESDAY, Nov 3rd, better vote to keep them checks a coming in...

No man is an island. If others don't come along side and support him all the power the US has bestowed on him means nothing. What's one to do? Perhaps beauty contestant Palin is more the fare the public wants. Empy, silly, petty and growing old as we speak.
by BitterSocialistsAreFunny October 7, 2010 1:07 PM EDT
Uh..Arvie? I'm not sure if you realize that the Dems held the majority in both the House and the Senate? For a good while, it was a SUPER majority in both houses and the economy still sucks, we're still at war in the middle east and the sky is still blue. What's it gonna take for all you racists to see past the fact that he's black and realize that he's just not very effective?
by jwilwade October 7, 2010 12:23 PM EDT
I would like to know where in the world did CBS find half of Americans that think Obama is doing good on the economy? Talk about a one sided poll! They must have done what they always do and get 70% of Demos and 20% of Republicans and 10 of independents to vote in there polls. Every other poll says that only 38 % of Americans would vote for Obama again! Every other poll says 60 to 70 % of Americans believe we are heading in the wrong direction. Obama has a 41 % approval rating yet some how CBS magically finds 50 % of the people like Obamas job on the economy. BS BS BS BS! Obviously 68% of Americans do not like Obama's job on the economy or there would not be only 38% ready to vote for him again. CBS PROTECTOR OF THE LIBERALS AND OBAMA.

I know, I know, its all Bush and Cheney's fault that he has to spend time trying to save the Democrats Party instead of focusing on the economy.
by bajajohn1 October 7, 2010 12:12 PM EDT
What do Americans want? If they want the government to create jobs--it will take money and more spending. If they want the government out of the economy--then they blame the President because the economy is not growing. Then when legislative iniatives are tried to bolster employment, the Republicans oppose them. WhatTF?
by MickKegeon October 7, 2010 12:35 PM EDT
I don't think Americans want the government to create jobs or increase spending. It is the private sector that creates jobs and wealth. What is needed is a policy that encourages (or at least doesn't punish)businesses to grow. Higher taxes on businesses (large and small) and stiffling needless regulations ( a 1099 IRS form for 600.00 dollar expenditure?) discourage growth. This administration is clearly hostile towards businesses, just listen to Obama rail against CEO's and big business. What this country needs is business friendly policies instead of business hostile policies. But then Obama wants to redestribute wealth instead of creating an environment where people can earn wealth.

Everyone is out campigning. Nothing is going to change until after the elections. I would think the stock market is moving up because government is absent and can't throw some off-the-wall tax or rule to try and get some of the cheese. Ask questions people of these clowns while they are on the "vote-for-me" trail. WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO IN NOV. Not the same ole, same ole, but 24/7, no vacations, no family time, no holidays. Maybe we should all go on strike until they listen.

My oh my how short our memories can become. I will never, never forgive Bush for having Osama Bin Laden in our sights and then subcontracting the job to a hill tribe in Afghanistan; and at the same time start a useless war in Iraq. THERE is where our economy went folks. We are now in a stage of rebuilding and we would be much, much further down the road if Repubs would work with the rebuilding rather than obstruct progressive programs. I would much rather spend money on Americans helping Americans then a shameful military adventure.

Uh Clyd, I think that was Clinton that the Saudi's wanted to turn Osama over to, but he couldn't think of a reason to take him.
by klg1956 October 7, 2010 12:37 PM EDT
What planet are you on? Never forgive Bush for having Osama bin Laden in our sights? Clinton was offered Osama bin Laden 9 different times and Clinton rejected the captures. Clinton appointed Counterterrorism czar Richard Clarke had ordered his staff to review existing intelligence in relation to the bombing of the USS Cole. After that review, he and Michael Sheehan, the State Department?s counterterrorism coordinator, were convinced it was the work of Osama bin Laden. The Pentagon had on-the-shelf, regularly updated and detailed strike plans for bin Laden?s training camps and strongholds in Afghanistan. At a meeting with Secretary of Defense William Cohen, Director of Central Intelligence George Tenet, Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, Attorney General Janet Reno, and other staffers, Clarke was the only one in favor of retaliation against bin Laden. Reno thought retaliation might violate international law and was therefore against it. Tenet wanted to more definitive proof that bin Laden was behind the attack, although he personally thought he was. Albright was concerned about the reaction of world opinion to a retaliation against Muslims, and the impact it would have in the final days of the Clinton Middle East peace process. Cohen, according to Clarke, did not consider the Cole attack ?sufficient provocation? for a military retaliation. Michael Sheehan was particularly surprised that the Pentagon did not want to act. He told Clarke: ?What?s it going to take to get them to hit al Qaeda in Afghanistan? Does al Qaeda have to attack the Pentagon?? [little did they know.] Instead of destroying bin Laden?s terrorist infrastructure and capabilities, President Clinton phoned twice phoned the president of Yemen demanding better cooperation between the FBI and the Yemeni security services. If Clarke?s plan had been implemented, al Qaeda?s infrastructure would have been demolished and bin Laden might well have been killed. Sept. 11, 2001 might have been just another sunny day. On March 3, 1996, U.S. ambassador to Sudan, Tim Carney, Director of East African Affairs at the State Department, David Shinn, and a member of the CIA?s directorate of operations? Africa division met with Sudan?s then-Minister of State for Defense Elfatih Erwa in a Rosslyn, Virginia hotel room. Item number two on the CIA?s list of demands was to provide information about Osama bin Laden. Five days later, Erwa met with the CIA officer and offered more than information. He offered to arrest and turn over bin Laden himself. Two years earlier, the Sudan had turned over the infamous terrorist, Carlos the Jackal to the French. He now sits in a French prison. Sudan wanted to repeat that scenario with bin Laden in the starring role. Clinton administration officials have offered various explanations for not taking the Sudanese offer. One argument is that an offer was never made. But the same officials are on the record as saying the offer was ?not serious.? Even a supposedly non-serious offer is an offer. Another argument is that the Sudanese had not come through on a prior request so this offer could not be trusted. But, as Ambassador Tim Carney had argued at the time, even if you believe that, why not call their bluff and ask for bin Laden? The Clinton administration was in the dark about the full extent of the bin Laden menace because the president?s decision to treat the 1993 World Trade Center bombing as a crime. Once the FBI began a criminal investigation, it could not lawfully share its information with the CIA ? without also having to share the same data with the accused terrorists. Woolsey told me about his frustration that he had less access to evidence from the World Trade Center bombing ? the then-largest ever foreign terrorist attack on U.S soil ? than any junior agent in the FBI?s New York office. Why did Clinton treat the attack as a law-enforcement matter? Several reasons. In the first few days, Clinton refused to believe that the towers had been bombed at all ? even though the FBI made that determination within hours. He speculated a electrical transformer had exploded or a bank heist went bad. More importantly, treating the bombing as a criminal matter was politically advantageous. A criminal matter is a relatively tidy process. It has the political benefit of insulating Clinton from consequences; after all, he was only following the law. He is not to blame if the terrorists were released on a ?technicality? or if foreign nations refuse to honor our extradition requests. Oh well, he tried. And that is the reason we are at war with Muslim jihadists; because of the lack of taking anything serious, except, of course, a White House freebie, Monica Lewinsky blow job, cigar style. Now that he took seriously, didn't he?
by fotoguy22 October 7, 2010 12:51 PM EDT
According to an MSNBC report our preditor drones had Osama Bin Laden positively identified and our guys were awaiting their orders to either fire missles and kill him right then and there or not. The order from the White House was to NOT take him out. It was the fall of 2000 and Bill Clinton was president at the time.

What, people expect the ruined economy to be turned around overnight? They've been watching too much TV and eating too much fast food. It took years to lay waste to the country and it will take some time for it to regain its health. Obama is doing a pretty good joe considering he inherited two wars, including the longest in US history, and a failed economy near depression. He's not a miracle worker, but if you think that Bonehead of OH or McConnell would do better, good luck!

The CBO confirms that the stimulus protected jobs and kept us out of a depression. That's not too bad.
by jgg000101 October 7, 2010 2:07 PM EDT
CBO stands for "Congressional Budget Office", what do you think they are going to say? The CBO also said that the healthcare plan would be "deficit neutral" and we now know that was a load of bs. The CBO is controlled by congress and can/will paint any picture congress wants.
